The trail traverses 150 miles through the Shawnee National Forest and passes
by or near a number of Indian pictographs and petroglyphs (at Buffalo rock,
Millstone Bluff, etc.) in addition to old homesteads sites, a slave cemetery
and some spectacular rock formations (Cedar Bluff, Peters Cave, Sand Cave,
etc). The area, obviously, is rich in Indian and pioneer history. The Trail
of Tears - the Cheroke march from the Carolinas to Oklahoma - passes through
this area.
Some of the names I've tossed around are - Lost Heritage Trail, American
Heritage Trail, Trail of Tears (too negative for the endurance rider?) and
Pioneer Trail. I look forward to your response.
