[endurance] Cutting Stifle Ligament

Someone recently told me that it is common practice for Arabain halter
horses to undergo the procedure of cutting the stifle ligament. Can any
shead shed some light on this. They had an endurance horse - ex halter
horse - that could not finish a ride. The horse would come up lame at about
40 miles. After a lot of frustration, they had the entire leg X-rayed at
the Univ or FL vet school.

Come to find out the patella was fractured - the vet concluded that the cut
stifle ligament led to this problem. Her vet had missed the fact that this
procedure had been performed at the pre-purchase exam. The vet school vet
also told he that this seemed to be a common practice in Arabian halter
horse world.

Is this one more thing we need the vet to look for in a pre-purchase exam?

Thanks for your imput in advance.

Truman
