Dear David -
Thanks for the info! For me, 14.2 is just right - it's just as
high as I can get on easily and as high as I want to think of falling
from! Sure sounds that gelding was a fun fellow!!! What did you do
with him - endurance? Was he good at it? If you didn't do it, do you
think the breed has endurance potential? I have an Arab mare now that
I love dearly, but someday maybe I'll get some sort of Spanish Barb if
they are any good at endurance. Thanks again and
Happy trails!

Subject: Lake Sonoma Endurance Ride & Graham's visit (ATTEN: BAY AREA E-Lers)

Note: Ride Date is October 21st and the pre-ride events the PM of Oct. 20th
Post ride awards banquet is the evening of the 21st.

This ride is firming up nicely. I'd like to invite every Bay Area E-Ler
and all the many friends of Graham Jenkins to come to Geyersville the
night before the Lake Sonoma ride. Camp over, if you would to watch the
ride start and chat with Graham. (While he drinks my beer. Well I don't
drink it anymore somebody should!) ;-)

I've personally never done this one. Still since Graham Jenkins is going
to be in the Bay Area we decided to meet there. I've been seeing his name
on rec-eq since the late 80's and enjoying his company on the present form
of E-L so let's show the Aussie some good Old Fashioned California
hospitality. Jan is going to ride it too. Should be interesting on Diag.
I'm really looking forward to it. If The Rebel Prince isn't up to it I
might just take my Racehorse instead. :)

I've heard good things about it. Breck Thomas used to own a farm up there
I personally used to frequent the Geyersville hot baths back in the free
and easy late 60's. Nice country looks like a great place for a ride.

If Steph or anyone else would like more information Call ride sponsor...

Permissible? Absolutely! I don't see any reason to advise or
regulate the flow of information within this group. As long as
the general topics are related to endurance - and unless a
problem develops - I'd say anything goes!

Have a great first ride Deborah - if you have access to the web,
the AERC handbook is online on the endurance homepage and is a
great source of information for new endurance riders.

I saw the BC judging on Sunday afternoon.
Mathew MacKay-Smith came in first place just seconds in front of
Chris Knoch (past 2-time winner). I don't know who received th BC award
as I didn't stay for the awards dinner.
Both Mathew's and Chris's horses were a little stiff looking to me
during the BC judging. The first horse to trot out nicely was the 5th
place finisher, sorry I can't remember his name. I'm sure the URL at
Endurance Connection will have results posted soon.
BTW this is the first year in a long time where the men were so
well represented in top 10 finishers. I don't have a count there either
but it seemed like their were more men than women in the top 10.

Ray Santana

This sounds a little different if I understand you correctly. At
most of our rides, the 'gate into a hold' means that your hold does
not even begin until the pulse is down to whatever criteria is
defined before the ride begins (usually 60). So conceivably a
horse could spend much more time at the hold if he his slow
to recover. As with your system, if a horse does not recover
within 30 minutes he is pulled.

Another question - how consistent are the 'policies' across
Europe?

Desiree - how about Holland?

South Africa? Australia?

Steph,

The must meet criteria within 30 minutes is used by all international
championship rides (this does NOT mean all FEI rides) and most of Europe
rides under international championship rules due to the number of riders
crossing borders there.
