I understand what you are saying, but disagree that it is not a race. If you
look at the original 5 rules of AERC I think that you will find endurance races
defined as a race. The first across wins. Now there are weight divisions, so
there are several winners.
Another rule was that everyone that finishes is recognized - so to "finish is to
win" to the folks looking for the individual challenge. I personally don't
"race" to win, but acknowledge that I am entered in a race. Part of why I don't
"race" is the competition at the front, which includes not always being nice.
