Check out this web site for hoof toughner and helping keep feet healthy. I
have used it and liked it. Do NOT get it on the outer hoof wall.  Keep a rag
wrapped around the edge of the sole hoof wall junction to catch the runs.
Use an old toothbrush to move it around the bottom  of the sole. The hard
part is putting it on a dry sole when the weather is wet this time of year.
