RE: [RC] completely healthy, stop kiddin' yourself - Kitley, Carrie E Civ USAF AFSPC 30 MDSS/SGSLFNot sure who said it in an earlier post, but I just can't fathom how there could be more injuries from horseback riding vs motorcycles. First of all, we don't ride our horses in traffic at high speeds on flesh-grinding asphalt, secondly, I've witnessed more people on motorcycles riding recklessly (mostly men) than I've ever seen reckless riders on horses (unless you watch old Westerns on TV). Then there's always the drunk driving slant . . . It's much easier to ride a motorcycle to a bar and slam back a few too many than it is to belly your horse up to the bar, slam back a few and gallop home on the wrong side of the highway. I guess if you got pulled over, you might be arrested for an RUI. ;) Carrie BTW: I don't work in a hospital ER, but common sense tells me that the two types of riding are simply too different in nature to be compared for the injurious quotient. JMHO, ok? And don't get me wrong, I happen to love motorcycles . . . I just prefer my horse. =) My favorite Uncle was a surgeon at St Anthony's hospital in Denver, Colorado he told me to never get on a motorcycle! He said he was sick and tired of trying to pick helmet pieces out of people's heads. I live in the NW corner of Missouri and in my area there have been many motorcycle deaths and no horse related deaths that I know of. It is a law in MO to wear a helmet but I still see many riders in flip flops. We have had two very serious motorcycle accidents where I work in the last two years. These are people that use the proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). I very seldom see another horseback rider when I ride with a helmet on. Shannon who took his advice and have never been on a motorcycle, and do wear my helmet when I ride my horseJ Carrie Kitley 30th Medical Group, Vandenberg AFB DMLSS Database Sustainment Specialist (DSS) CACI International Inc, www.caci.com DSN: 276-1077 Fax: 805-606-1179 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
