RE: [RC] re: stop kidding yourself - Robert J. Morris

Just a "me too" to Cindy's comments about horses and motorcycles. I have a
body in both camps. That is my body! One of the rules with the bikes is
ATGATT; all the gear all the time. This applies to horses as well. You do
not ride your horse with out a helmet!

And, Cindy, obviously it does not stop with the 70's as I am well started
into the 80's.

I hate to burst your bubble, but maybe it depends on where you live.
As I've said, I have a foot in both user groups and I know WAY more
people who have been permanently injured and/or killed on horses.
Now, let me give this caveat: I also don't mean to disparage certain
motorcycle users, but it truly depends on if you're talking about the
Harley crowd that rides from bar to bar with no helmet on or the "kid"
who buys a new super bike and has never ridden a motorcycle of any
kind until then or even worse the mid-life crisis guy who buys a bike
that is more powerful than anything he's ever driven in a car and who
has no training or experience with motorcycles, etc. The motorcycle
folks I "hang out with" grew up riding dirt bikes, they learned how to
handle turning, gravel, etc. They all wear helmets and protective
gear. They competed in off road events of all kinds. They do things
like ride on their BMWs to the Arctic Circle or the length of Mexico,
etc. Do they occasionally have wrecks...you bet, but that's the
exception, not the rule. And, the worst wreck many of them have been
in involved things like a car driver turning in front of them or a
deer running into the highway and wiping them off their bike. Many of
them are riding into their 60s and even 70s. Anyhow, one of my best
friends is an ER nurse and she can tell you that although she has seen
some horrible and stupid motorcycle victims, she sees WAY more horse
accidents. BTW, my motorcycle friends all think think that what "I"
do is WAY more dangerous :) Cindy
