Well, the death toll has reached 126 persons, with more still to come. Please don't think I'm being morbid.... it's just that I, like everyone else here, am astounded at this number! We in the "lucky country" are just not used to these numbers of deaths.... being a fairly sparsely populated nation, we have never seen these numbers before!
As always in times of grief, the support from around the nation (and the world) has been astonishing too! Funds have been set up to take donations, trucks are already on their way from the northern states filled with basic supplies, donations of clothing and other obvious items are flooding into Melbourne for distribution, and the 'horsey' world is coordinating deliveries of tack and feed items, as well as offers of pasture and safe haven for livestock.
I and my immediate friends are in no danger where we are located, so for us it's a case of trying to assist where we can.
