If you are worried about the beet pulp having too high a
sugar content you can reduce it using a technique Susan Garlinghouse presented
at the PNER conference a few years ago. Set up a double bucket system by
drilling small holes in a bucket that will just slide into another
bucket. Soak beet pulp as usual. Pull inner bucket out and leave
all the water (with dissolved sugar in it) in the outer bucket. Basically
a colander system. You can even further rinse the beet pulp in the inner
bucket if you feel it is necessary. Doesn’t take any extra time to
do this in the feeding routine and you can add water to your final mix if you
want it to be “slurpier” when fed. Works like a charm!
