There have been rides on Tahoe Rim Trail and a long-standing ride at Pt. Reyes National Seashore. I did the Drakes Bay 50 7 or 8 times and we rode along the beach and had a vet check at the bird sanctuary in Bolinas. It was one of my favorite rides.....mb

Me too Barbara!!
I spent the summer starting a new rider on my 10 yr old horse and new horse for me..2010 will be a different story!
We rode:
The Pacific Crest Trail The Tahoe Rim Trail Pt. Reyes National Seashore
..none of these areas would allow a competitive ride..but that is ok by me as long as I can still ride there!

So...if AERC would sanction rides that are not competitive, with no placings, etc. but just awarding mileage, would that be acceptable in the Wilderness designation? If so, then I would happily ride for mileage only just to be able to ride there.
The problem the AERC has is the 1964 law which forbids competitive events in Wilderness areas. Since the AERC has less an a snowball's chance he Hell changing that - it's on their plate to define a format that allows organized events - which satisfy the requirements of the law. The other option the AERC has is to keep whining about it.
