How do you know that it took your horses that long to acclimate?
Horses have HUGE spleens which allow them to adapt very quickly to additional
elevation. People are not the same. I live at 1600’ and ride my horses up to
8000’ maybe a couple times a summer and they never have any issues. Matter of
fact, both of mine are more energetic in the high mountain trails.

I moved from the Bay Area to
Placerville at the 2800' level. It took me at least six months to
acclimitize. The horses took equally as long. However, just know
the fun you will have riding in much lower levels! :) You will be
able to ride for DAYS!
