I agree with both Sandy and D'Arcy. I find that if I allow extra time in the morning, I can get on, and have time for a good warmup. I walk for about 5 minutes, then mix in some trotting. I like to have at least 15 - 20 minutes to warm up, preferably more.

If you don't lunge a horse in at least a 60 - 60 foot diameter you are placing too much pressure on the inside leg/shoulder. This alone could not only be hazardous but downright miserable for the horse that is then asked to give 50-100 miles.
