Re: [RC] right vehicle for towing - trailer brakes - Elizabeth WalkerThis is just my experience, and I will be the first to admit I've set my brakes purely by guess, so I may be all wet here. However, this is how I did it.I did it this way -- first, I paid attention to how the truck stopped with no trailer attached. Then, I went an hitched up the (empty)trailer, and played around on the same (flat) piece of road. -- If the trailer tires grabbed (watch the mirror, listen for screeching tires or jerks when you use the brake), then the controller was set too high. -- If the truck felt like I had to brake harder than I did without the trailer, the controller was set too low. -- If I couldn't feel any difference, it was just about right. Once I had that, I "fine tuned" it while actually towing, using the above criteria. When you're setting up your electronic brake controller, how do you fine tune the settings? Obviously, if you're not stopping, then it's set too low. But how high do you go, and what's the symptom of the setting being TOO high?
