It the best of all worlds the only thing the trailer brake has to do is keep the trailer behind the tow vehicle while it is being stopped. If you are depending an electric trailer brake with the small shoes they have to stop anything then your heading for problems.

The vehicle needs to be sufficient to handle what it is being asked to tow. I dare say at a ride camp these days about 1/2 if not more truck/trailer combinations is beyond the specs of the trucks design.

Kat mentioned trailer brakes as the problem in some situations.  I am
new to all of this, so am wondering...  When you're setting up your
electronic brake controller, how do you fine tune the settings?
Obviously, if you're not stopping, then it's set too low.  But how high
do you go, and what's the symptom of the setting being TOO high?
