Ok, call me lazy...but I am a farrier...and I couldnt' walk into the barn and put my hands on a hoof pick, not without looking for 30 minutes. I never clean out hoofs. They get cleaned when they are shod, and mostly that is every 4 weeks. They are out in pasture with no rocks. I do pick them out if I suspect something...but I have been doing this for years and no problems.

I have heard the same things, Dot. My horses are in large corrals with
sandy soil. They get their feet cleaned about twice a week because I
board and that's how many times I'm able to see them. They're feet
are
fine, however I have one horse that tends to stand in his manure and pee
more than the other two and his feet can get thrushy if we're not
careful. I think it depends on the horse (once again, that pat answer),
and the condition of their feet, environment, feed, etc. I do believe
that the bacteria levels of the ground where they reside has a lot to do
with the outcome. Don't know if that helps or not. :)

I have read and heard many times that a horse's hooves should be cleaned
and picked out every day.
On the other hand I also hear and read some knowledgeable hoof care
speakers and texts say a horse's feet benefit, and are perfectly
healthy, by not cleaning every day.
What do you all think? What do you do with pasture horses, stalled
horses, dry lot horses???
