Re: [RC] Riding mares - Rebecca FabiszakI have also heard that mares take better care of themselves. My daughters filly was an absolute PAIN when she would come into heat as a youngster. Got her as a yearling, she is now 3. Every time she would make an issue with being in heat, she was scolded. Now she is pretty much immune to those dang hormones. I think that it is like a teenager when they first start menstruating. As they age, they handle the hormones more maturely. I bet I've boarded/handled/trained/ridden 150 mares over the years, and I think I've ran into four or five who were bitchy in heat. Most of them you could hardly tell, 'cept for a little squealing in the pasture. Personally, I think mares are tougher and take better care of themselves.
