My old endurance horse would hiccup. He only did this when he was upset. He had gotten to where if there was anything strange at a ride, like mules, or wagons that came thru camp the day before, he would start with hiccups. If you didn't take him out on the trail..right then and ride him to settle his nerves, it would progress into a nerve induced colic. I learned this the hard way twice with him the day before the ride. He had to be treated, then couldn't start the next day because of the treatment shot. SO...the next time he did it, I thought...I will ride him and see if it settles him down. It did...and never was treated again for silliness. But, he always started off with the hiccups.

Does anyone know if horses can hiccup? One of our mares appears to be doing so... sigh - gets weirder and weirder.
