I agree. The chain link at the place I mentioned was very heavy-duty. It holds its shape better, and will stand up to a direct kick.

My horse used to live in a chain link pasture/paddock and it was pretty safe if properly maintained, but some horses would get small scratches on their lips/muzzle from time to time while trying to mooch a blade of grass from under the fence. Could really be ugly if the mesh was loose enough at the bottom, so make sure it's all connected to a rail of some sort.
Also, make sure it is a heavy enough gauge and installed tight enough to survive horses bouncing off it from time to time as will inevitably happen if two get in a scuffle, crowding at the gate at feed time, etc. Some chain links are fine but some are very lightweight and would be unsuitable.
