Re: [RC] How about the name "Samurai"? - Elizabeth Walker
Well, I like it. :) I don't see what is so "horrible" about it. Besides, the samurai are supposed to be brave warriors, so maybe that will help with the spookiness. :)
For a registered name, I like "Ceder's Samurai" better than just "Samurai", but I think either one is fine. I would look at the registered names of the ancestors, and pick the form that seems to fit in best. Though, since his sire has a one-word name and his dam has a two-word name, could be you can just go with your personal preference.
I'm planning to register my 7 year old gelding soon, and he's always been known as Samurai (or Sami).
It fits because his sire is Kobayashi. His dam was the late Al-Marah Ceder. He's a gorgeous copper bay, with each foot distinctly marked: he has a white triangle on his left fore, a black carmine spot on his right, a black triangle on his left hind, and a half sock on his right. He has a star and blaze, and a pink, star-shaped snip on his nose. People stop in their tracks when they see him, he's so animated and beautiful.
I like the name "Samurai," but when I bought him, the sales agent said, "At least, since he's not registered, you can change that awful name." Hmmm....
My second choice right now is "Ceder's Samurai" if the single name is already taken, but I'm open to suggestions.
Personality-wise, Sami is so sweet, but he is also prone to skittishness and that 180-spin-and-bolt thing... I've had three spook-less rides this week, though, so maybe he's finally growing up?
I hope you're all out riding, enjoying the beautiful fall weather.
