Thanks guys! I am going to ask about her heat cycles and try her next week.
And I am glad to hear the positives about mares....I've always been a gelding
person and really never had to deal with the mareish issues

Oh, and forgot to add...
you said you search and it seemed that
geldings were more succesful? The statistics could be misleading
- it could be just more people are riding geldings. You'd have
to do a true study where all other parameters are equal to compare
gelding vs. mare success rate.
And a bit of trivia - I was told
that the bedouins preferred to ride mares in battle. the stallions were
left at home. Don't know if true, just interesting if
so...

In response to the question about mares being "moody" - I have had an
arabian mare for 6 yrs. She is the most relaxed laid back horse
I've ever ridden. I can't even tell when she goes into heat, because her
mood never changes.
I once had an arab cross gelding. He
was a jerk.
I say pay attention to the personality and not to the
gender. Just my novice opinion.
