RE: [RC] against change the pulse time down - David LeBlancWell, no - his problem is that he can't seem to get his horse to criteria inside of 30 minutes. At the vet checks, he only has 30 minutes, so if this were an issue at vet checks, I'd expect to see a lot of pulls - which we do, see below. Now what's interesting is that I just looked up everyone named Roger G in Texas, and only found one, and that horse has only done LD since 2002, so the 30 minute rule applies to him anyway. If I have the person and the horse right, that horse is 18 completions for 32 attempts, and I'd submit that maybe this isn't the best job for that horse. Which gets back to my point, which is that if you can't get a horse to criteria routinely within 30 minutes, then maybe this isn't the right sport for that horse. From the record, I can see that the problem isn't that the rider is screaming down the trail. Another aspect to Terre's point - she lives and primarily rides in BC. They have some of the toughest rides in AERC up there, and they normally apply this rule to the rides up there. So when you have to deal with it while dealing with some incredibly steep terrain routinely, and it doesn't seem like a big deal, then that might lead you to the conclusion it isn't a big deal. I know I've never once needed more than 30 minutes, and the couple of times it was close, I was going too fast that day. -----Original Message----- From: ridecamp-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:ridecamp-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Joe Long Sent: Tuesday, September 29, 2009 11:37 AM To: Ridecamp (E-mail) Subject: Re: [RC] against change the pulse time down On Sep 29, 2009, at 11:17 AM, terre wrote: But this always raises the question: what did you do in the vet checks DURING the ride, and why is the finish any different? But that's such a silly question. The finish line is not a vet check. It is different. In critical ways that have been pointed out over and over again. You're right, though, that someone will always raise the question anyway. -- Joe Long jlong@xxxxxxxxxxxxx =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
