[RC] SERA Membership Meeting and Convention - Tom Sites

The SERA Convention is being held this weekend outside Atlanta and
I'd like to pass on some of my report on a new SERA Ride in
Virginia, The Virginia Highlands Endurance Challenge, Hosted and
Managed by Don and Nicki Meuten. I had heard that SERA had a Mentor
Program for new rides wheras SERA Volunteers would show up with
scales to weigh the horses and the Blood Analyzer machine to track
the blood ratio. Below is a list of the SERA Members who showed up
for this program.

SERA Volunteers

Nina Barnett Timer
Dawn Osborne Timer plus all around help on trails, putting out
water
the day before the ride, etc.
Karen Isaacs Timer
Laurie Underwood Timer
Otis Schmitt Head Vet
Duane Barnett Vet
Jeanne Waldron Vet (on Day 2 at VC 2)
Stagg Newman Scribe / P&R
Cheryl Newman Scribe / P&R
Tom Sites Cooked a little

Dane Osborne Spotter plus all around help on trails, putting out
water the day before the ride, etc.
Patty Osborne Timer plus all around help on trails, putting out
water
the day before the ride, etc.

Dane and Patty aren’t “official” SERA members, but they frequently
volunteer at SERA sanctioned rides and came all the way from Ohio to
serve as SERA volunteers at the NC ride this past October.

Day 1 Riders

55 Milers
78 started overall
21 of those riders were SERA members
20 SERA members
completed 95%
of SERA Riders Completed

30 milers
30 started overall
4 of those riders were SERA members
All 4 SERA members
completed 100%
of SERA Riders Completed

Day 2 Riders

55 milers
51 started
16 of those riders were SERA members
All 16 SERA members
completed 100%
of SERA Riders Completed

30 milers
41 started
8 of those riders were SERA members
7 SERA members completed

                                        87% of SERA Riders Completed
95.5% of ALL SERA Riders Completed

Not a bad completion ratio is it? SERA is an Organization devoted to
education and mentoring and providing tools that assist the riders
and their horses. Would you consider becoming a SERA Member? If
you're still in doubt check out the Awards given at the Convention.
As it now stands in the state of Virginia there are only 2 members.
Myself and Dr. Jeannie Waldron who said after the Convention last
year..."This is really a fun group of people"

My goal this year is to try and get more Members in Virginia. Will
you help us have more fun and be one of those 95.5% of completers?

Thank You and Good Tidings,
Tom Sites
