Re: [RC] Calcium issues at a ride - rides2far@xxxxxxxxSOOOO anyone had calcium issues?? I bought a jug of calcium/magnesium oxide from Teddy ( Running Bear) and plan to use it at the next ride but then started thinking about the calcium phosphorous ratio, can I screw things up more ( or differently ) by >>>>giving her calcium???? First thing I think of when you talk calcium is Alfalfa hay. I know if a horse gets too much calcium every day (if it lives on alfalfa) its body can get lazy about utilizing it. If I was worried about calcium I wouldn't feed alfalfa (or supplement calcium) at home and I'd make lots of it available during the ride. Seems like your mare would have gotten thumps. I always thought of that as the "light on the dashboard" that goes off when they're low on calcium.
