RE: [RC] 1/2 or 1 hour hold - Kristen A FisherWell the subject lien is misleading, because the time period is not
referring to a hold time. However to answer the question, the final
control check is different than a vet check, in the
following ways:
Some people argue that there is no data to support the supposition
that this will be better for horses; others then respond "AERC has historically
tightened fit-to-continue criteria without data before." Maybe that premise
needs to be examined, if the current membership thinks it is important to
review data that supports
change.
Anyone is
more than welcome to pulse in within 30 minutes of crossing the finish line [if
they can make it from the finish line to the control check in that period of
time]. Additionally, any ride manager is welcome to "adopt more
stringent criteria, but these must be provided to competitors before the ride in
written form."
I think this should
remain a "may" issue vs. a "must" issue, as it stands today [rides "may" have a
30 minute window vs. "must" have a 30 minute window]. Then the RM and vet, who
best understand the specifics of the ride, can decide what's right for that
ride.
