Re: [RC] Biltmore Mountin' Hopes Fall Fling - From the Turtle's Perspe ctive - rides2far@xxxxxxxx

Michelle,
Many of us have been in your shoes. If I had my old articles on this computer I
would send you my version: "It ain't over till I'm over"...and yes, it is
worse for 100's. Try watching the 50's have a BBQ dinner catered while you're
still riding, then seeing that the "Breakfast" for the 100 mile awards is a
bowl of leftover Little Debbie Snack Cakes (from the 50's desert table) and
coffee, then you, (who wear a small) get a XXL T-shirt for a completion award
because all the small ones got taken by the shorter distances last night.>g<

I wasn't at Biltmore, but would guess the threat of rain may have tempted them
to start things as early as possible. I've been a turtle and a manager so can
empathize with both sides. You really don't need P&R people, recorders & vets
for one horse so the vet who's been standing all day goes finds a chair or may
be grabbing a bite to eat and the person who was doing P&R's may be off in a
camper somewhere helping figure BC. The person who hauls the scales to the ride
may have a certain place in their trailer that thing fits and can't put
anything else away until it's inside, etc. etc. Congrats on taking care of your
horse and don't take it as a lack of respect that everybody there has stuff to
deal with and they were probably just doing what they had to.
