I so appreciate your perspective on the DNR
applicability. Unfortunately, in Kansas, as a hospice professional a
decade ago, we had more instances than I can recall where emergency personnel
were called by the distraught family of a terminal patient, and even though the
DNR was posted at the bedside, and the family asked that resuscitation attempts
NOT be made, CPR and other life support measures were initiated.
Our experience was not unusual. We finally
had to post DO NOT CALL 911 signs near the phone.
Again, this was a decade ago, so perhaps things
have changed.
I value the noble efforts of ALL emergency workers
and their work does not need to be any more difficult than it already
is.
