[RC] RE:ride Holds - Michael MaulIn response to:One hold works at the multi-day rides because riders tend to ride more conservatively there.Actually you should look at a complete statistical analysis like http://www.seraonline.org/Archives/multidayrides.pdf by Truman Prevatt. It's based on our AERC rides. It doesn't agree with the statement that MD riders are more conservative. "The question this study addresses is the riders that complete all days of a Pioneer event – do they ride slower? It was found that they even ride a little faster (however, not significantly so) than the riders that complete only two days. The riders that complete all days of a Pioneer event ride on the average 4.2 percent faster than the average ride time of single day riders. The conclusions as to the possible reasons are varied, longer single day rides, shorter Pioneer rides, easier or harder terrain, etc." "In any case, independent of the reason - the riders that rode all days of a Pioneer event rode 4.2% faster than their counterparts on single day rides in similar terrain and similar climate. " There's a lot of very useful statistics that Truman has done there that show what the statistics really are compared to what we think they might be. http://www.seraonline.org/endstats.htm Analysis of Pulls 1996 through 2006 (pdf) Trends & Profiles of the Years (pdf) 7 Year Pull Trends (pdf) Pull Comparisons (pdf) Multi Day Rides (pdf) Ride Times LD/50 Mile for 2002 (pdf) How Fast Are We Riding?
