[RC] Ride Holds - Naomi PrestonI agree with Steve's comments -- and, I've seen marathon runners
collapse after crossing the finish line. Holds are for the
protection of the horse. Also, comparing Duck rides and Nat'l
Champs or other high profile rides is like comparing apples and
oranges. They are not comparable. I've done both, and
believe me, the pace at a multi-day ride is MUCH SLOWER than the pace
of the top competitors at an NC or top ride. One hold works
at the multi-day rides because riders tend to ride more conservatively
there. However, when competitors "race" at the big races,
more holds are needed to protect the horses.
