Re: [RC] Bitting Issue - Elizabeth WalkerI will second Ranelle on the Myler 41PB. I got this mouthpiece as a 3- ring combination bit. I liked that option because it gave some warning before actually engaging. As for training ... before I got Caisson, I would have agreed 100% with Diane. Now .. about 50%. :) The other 50% is - it depends on the horse, their previous experience, and their basic temperament. Caisson can go from a horse that works on voice and seat control on a solitary trail ride, to feather-light aids in the ring, to a total race-brain at a ride, who has been known to bolt in the last 500 feet of a 50 mile ride. Diane might be right that the proper training could fix the issue, but I sure never found the key. Caisson is very competitive, and can be strong-willed. He thinks rides are to be conducted at race-track speeds, and gets extremely frustrated at a rider that interferes with that plan. :) Doing training rides with a group helped somewhat, but I certainly could never consider riding in a snaffle. Actual rides only improved slightly. In any kind of competitive situation, he wants to be *FIRST*, and hates to be rated. I don't think any amount of training is going to fix that - certainly no training that I am competent to perform, anyway. 2009, at 8:11 AM, Diane Trefethen wrote: With all this talk about which bit or head piece to use, we are losing sight of the real problem, ie, your horse needs more and better training. <snip> =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
