If it makes some people happy to think that, but for them and their indignant 
outcries, the Mongol Derby would have been the "train wreck" that they were 
predicting, let them think it.

There is never any way to know what "would have happened if..." (not just in 
this instance, but in all instances).

"What might have been" or "if it weren't for me" is an entertaining parlor 
game, but that's it.? However, it is important to remember that?is a game of 
make believe.? You can make up anything you like with respect to what MIGHT 
have happened if circumstances were different, and nobody can "prove" otherwise.
