The West Region of AERC lost a member recently. I received this e-mail
from a mutual friend and thought that Ridecamp would be an appropriate place to
let other riders know. Cyndee will be missed.
Cyndee
had a blood disease that made her produce too many red cells which made her
blood too ?thick?. She had been having problems for a few years. It
made her very fatigued and short of breath, as the blood couldn?t move oxygen
efficiently through her body. It had gotten to the point where she was
having to be bled every few weeks ? basically like giving a blood donation?s
worth. She was also on an experimental drug program, one of the side
effects of which was forgetfulness and drowsiness, and they think she
accidentally took a second dose of the medication, which apparently was enough
to kill her. She was alone at the ranch, and her son and a neighbor found
her. I went and visited her a few months ago, and even though she was not
feeling great she was very upbeat and had a great sense of humor about the whole
thing. She hadn?t been riding much at all because of
generalized fatigue and seemed to be looking forward to just doing some
recreational riding. She and Greg (her husband and fellow endurance rider)
were responsible for the making of 20 Eagle Scouts in West Point, and they gave
her a moving tribute and were honorary pall bearers. Her ashes are being
scattered in several places, including with her horse US, who is buried at the
ranch.
