?I
have to admit the Mongol Derby went off better than I thought it would.
However, before too many people offer up crow for those
of us who expressed concern to dine on, consider the article below from
Horse and Hound, dated July 31st, which is very near to the start of
the race:
Yes the Mongol Derby seemed to come off just fine - despite the dire
predictions of the "armchair quarterbacks." Of course they appreciated
the support from the UAE - who would not appreciate money being poured
into there event.
However, at the end of the day - the armchair quarterbacks many of whom
I expect wanted to see a train wreck so they could say "I told you so"
were left with egg on their face.
It's time to admit that maybe just maybe - this was not an event set up
by a bunch of horse killers to make money - and move on.
There are some real issues concerning horses in the good old US of A
which I hear no indigination over. For example horses are being
butchered in their pastures and even their stalls in South Florida -
with their meat being sold on the black market. I haven't seen one word
about this - however,? I've seen a lot of hand wringing and gnashing of
teeth over something that turned out fine.
