Baaggi (his grandma
had/has a herd of 400) told me they cut all the manes on all of the horses
except the ones that were too wild & mean to catch and groom properly. They
were usually ill mannered stallions.

(Little piece of trivia for the day, all of the Mongolian stallions manes are left long and all geldings manes are cut.)
