They are fine and their house was not touched,
although the fire came close. Cal Fire and crews from elsewhere did a
great job of protecting the buildings. Their policy is save lives first,
structures second, and let the fire take the landscape. This evening, they
were backfiring all along the road up to, and past, the horse camp, so as to
take away any fuel for the fire to jump to. Sad, but it will grow back
come the rains. And I predict it will be beautiful in spring.
I kept thinking, over and over, I'm sure glad we
weren't putting on Swanton Pacific this year. Next weekend would have been
our date.
