[RC] Tevis and Saddles - Sandy Adams - JonniThe problem is with this type of study is, not all horses are the same, and they do not carry the same weight of rider, or even the same style (for lack of a better word) or rider. How one rides can change how well a saddle fits and works. A well balanced, lightweight rider could do well with a saddle that might be the worse in the world for a rider who does NOT ride balanced, or may weigh much more. Just as a heavy, very balanced rider may have less issues than a light rider, who has terrible distance riding equitation. But, to answer your question, We finished Tevis in 2005 using a cheap Bighorn cordura and leather endurance saddle, with a supracor pad (worth about the same as the saddle) , on a horse who takes wide in most saddle trees. I am a HWT rider, and his back was perfect on Sunday. Oh, and a Neoprene/smooth girth. Now I use a Specialized International model, and have had very little issues. Distributes my weight well. Also, I think I ride fairly balanced. But I'd guess most riders do think that. Be we have seen others on the trail, and know different. <grin> Jonni in TX =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
