(I suspect top speeds are similar, but article didn't mention speed) 2. Testing by hitting by a hammer to simulate a horses hoof, or a rock along the trail. Bikes are assumed to be on smooth paved roads. 3. More emphasis on protecting the back of the head. Bike accidents are more likely to hit front, horse accidents back. On the other hand, I have a friend who was saved in a horse accident by a bike helmet. A bike helmet on the head surely protects more than a horse helmet in the barn.
