Re: [RC] clicker training - rides2far@xxxxxxxxHMMM...Angie maybe I should try that with Tinian ( #6) too. For anyone who doesn't know, my horse "7" was one of 4 neglected stallions, a 5,6,7, and 14 year old so we just referred to them by their ages when trying to rescue them. Yes, I think it would be good for 6. 7 would get really irate and just put his nose up in the air and fight if they pushed him. I was a little worried I wouldn't do it right and would just be a person giving treats...which of course can make a biter, which isn't what you want to be dealing with when reaching for the mouth..but it has worked and I worked my way up from rewarding him for letting me hold his head while touching his lip to pulling lip down, to touching gum, to pressing gum. The good news is I haven't been bitten yet. This horse is not head shy. He has no problem with me putting a bit on him, sliding my thumb in his mouth, etc. It was the fact the vet wanted to hold him still or something but he's doing pretty well now. Now I'm trying to use it to get him to accept shoeing. He still won't put up with shoeing though he doesn't mind me handling his feet in the least. I haven't noticed much difference in 7 with males or females unless they try to use their strength to hold him. He doesn't put up with you trying to hold him still.
