I understand that the pulse must be verified by either a vet or a TPR. Whatever the rationale, are there no better ways to handle those problems, such as time penalties or minimum wait times between pulse takings? I would think that with all the effort, time and money that every rider puts into competing in a ride, a disqualification is an extremely stiff penalty to pay for a relatively minor error. Cut trail - sure, disqualify. Swear at pulse takers - I can see a disqualification for that. Over time when pulse is taken? Yes again. But having a faulty watch or heart monitor? Not predicting when a scary something might happen or the scent of a mare hot in heat wafting over to your stallion just as the pulse is being taken? I see DQs like these as mere whimsy because they are not remotely related to a horse's condition or fitness to continue. Thank you for more information on this point.
