[RC] The warning to Mongol Riders - k s swigart - Jonni

glory of being able to say they came in first (there is no prize money) are
going to gallop unfit ponies across unsuitable terrain and kill the horses in
the process.? <<<

Maybe not all, but we have heard of riders who go to their first AERC ride who over ride their horses because the competition aspect kicks in, and they do not think clearly about the safety and welfare of their OWN horse. Shoot, even experienced riders can still do that, when caught in the competition aspect. At least we have vets at the rides who have a clue how to handle these situations for the most part, and treat the horses, even with the riders have "mistreated" them. (although dang it, the vets job is not to have to fix our flipping mistakes)
