Re: [RC] Opinions wanted - Sisu West RanchNavicular?? I had a horse that acted like this when navicular was starting.Moral: If you are comfortable with the test and know how to do it, get out the hoof testers. I use a very large channel lock pliers. If the horse reacts at the toes you got founder. If the horse reacts across the frog you got navicular. If he kicks you across the corral be happy you were wearing your helmet. Do not tie a horse when you use hoof testers. (Trust me on that. A six pack of Moose Drool around the campfire is the price for the whole story.) My next advice is that if laminitis, call the vet and farrier. If navicular call the vet and farrier. If neither call the vet. Insist on a good workup, at a vet clinic where x-rays, ultrasound etc. is available. The possibilities the group and I have been considering all need long term management, and probably special shoeing and triming. Ed Disclaimer: I am not a vet, and have never seen this horse. All of my advice is free but comes with a double money back guarantee, do not be afraid to use it.
