Re: [RC] CA State Parks - Barbara McCraryThe reserve where the seals are is very close to us. It would be folly, I think, to close this area to the public, because it is making money from entry fees. It could be closed down in the summer, but from December through March, it is a beehive of activity during the pupping and breeding season, and the attendance is enough to pay for keeping it open, at least for those four months. The other issue is...if it is closed, people will sneak in and either harass the seals or someone could be injured. Those Elephant Seals are huge and can be treacherous if one doesn't stay a safe distance away. There isn't a way to keep the public off of beaches, because there isn't a way to fence them off. Trespassers are very determined. Good for them, but I think they could give up their share in order to keep our parks open. The seals seem to be doing just fine...> =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
