The trails in our nearby park, the ones we have used
for Swanton Pacific, are accessible from several points in our neighborhood, and
the one and only ranger on duty closest to us NEVER patrols the trails. In
fact, the trails are inaccessible by vehicle. So.....
I'm inclined to agree with Joe Long's message. I
suspect the state threatens to close down the entities the public will not
accept so the governor can use that for leverage. CA just voted down a
package of tax increases with the exception of one issue...a non-increase
of state employee salaries. Our governor says we are not in favor of tax
increases to run the state, but really we're not in favor of wasting money
where it is being spent. We need a big re-assessment of
priorities! Fewer government employees and useless programs, greater
productivity. Grumble, grumble....
Okay so say they close the parks, what or who will there be to stop
you from riding the trails? All you have to do is find a parking space
and unload and go ride. No rangers to run you off. Think of all
the fun you can have blazing new trails with no one there to bust you.
No fees to pay, no amenities but we are a rough and tough bunch. I for
one am adventurous and will ride unkept trails and blaze new paths. So
you can close our parks but just try and keep us out of them.
