For a number of years I rode and Aussie with the
traditional Aussie stirrups. For those who are not familiar they are like
English, but the tread is wider. Being made from chrome plated steel or
iron (I'm not sure which), they are virtually indestructible, and actually quite
comfortable.
Everything has its down side. One day while rushing
to saddle up, I grabbed my saddle from the trailer partition. One caught
for an instant and then came flying loose. It hit me right between the
eyes. I ended starting the ride with blood streaming down my face.
By the end I also had a nasty bruise between my eyes.
