Re: [RC] preventing soreness from stirrup leathers? - Melinda Faubel

LOL - thanks for sharing!? I have really "muscular calves" (yeah....we'll go with that).? I don't have problems with the pressure from the stirrup leathers but the fact that they will "bite" my calf.? a little pinch of skin will actually get under the leather and then it proceeds to work a bloody hole in my calf :(?
?
I also don't like sheepskin covers!
?
I did have pain from the pressure of the leathers for my first ride, because like you I think I was bracing too much.? Haven't had that problem since.?
?
I've been very happy in my suade velcro half chaps (yes they are a LOT more forgiving and they are think because they are cheap), but now that I want to do more running, I didn't want to have to wear them.
?
I'll definately keep you experience in mind as my gear goes through it's inevitable evolution.
?
Hope you don't mind me posting this to list.? I thought you had some valid points in your e-mail.

absolutely drove me crazy and I used them only once before I gave them

I had to learn to not hold hardly any tension in my legs, but you can
only do that if you can find your balance in the saddle, otherwise
your tendency is to brace, and you'll brace against the stirrup
leathers. ?I think a lot of my early shin rubbing was just shear
tension in my body from doing my first endurance rides before I got my
comfy ReactorPanel saddle.

Also make sure that your stirrups are facing the right direction. ?If
they are backward they will bite into your legs more. ?And don't ask
me which way is backwards because I have a set of stirrups that I find
more comfortable riding "backwards"!
