The most important thing to do is use a battery maintainer for when you are not using the trailer.  It will make the difference between a 1 to 2 year life and a 5 or more years of life for your batteries.
Do not just get a just a simple trickle charger, but one which senses voltage and maintains it.  There are excellent marine type products out there that are sealed and last a long time.
