Look for suede/Velcro half chaps. They are much more
forgiving in the size department – I have short legs too. I have found
some on www.horseloverz.com that fit
some of my heavier boarders. And they’re much better priced than the
zippered ones. With suede, you can even fold them down one notch if you need
to, or worst case, undo the stitching, cut them and sew them back up by hand or
possibly with even a reasonably heavy duty machine.
Half chaps really fulfill multiple functions – they can
keep junk out of your shoes, keep your saddle from soring you and save your
legs next to a barb wire fence or other sharp objects if you do the kind of
crazy rides we do.
