Re: [RC] SO not getting the drug rule hostlity... - Elizabeth WalkerOK, since I started that one, I'll try and answer this.-- The yucca is not included in the feed for its anti-inflammatory properties (aspirin). It is included because studies showed that it reduced ammonia in the urine (respiratory health). -- The label lists the yucca in the ingredient list, but there is nothing else on the bag, so unless you carefully read all the ingredients, and remember that it is on the banned list, it is possible to overlook it. I know I did. :) -- The company is selling a feed to which something was added for the overall health of the horse. NOT for any anti-inflammatory properties. However, the effective level of yucca as an anti- inflammatory is not known - or at least is not specified in the rules. So - the question I had (and still have) is whether the amount of yucca included for the respiratory health is above or below the effective anti-inflammatory level. If it is below effective anti- inflammatory levels, then it is not drugging. -- Nobody (certainly not me) is asking AERC to overlook doping because it is in a commercially packaged feed. The question is the effective level of a substance. Same as the issue on the rice bran or oats (which is why someone posted that folks in Europe didn't feed rice bran.)
