Re: [RC] rein length - Elizabeth WalkerLonger reins can get tangled around the water bottles on your pommel packs, if you ride with them.I have some standard English braided reins, which are long enough that the horse can graze, and I can hold onto the reins comfortably. I quit using them, however, because unless his head was stretched forward and down (not when he's excited, it's not...) the excess loop would hook under the water bottles on my pommel pack - usually when I was attempting to assert control at the canter... The reins I use now are short enough that they don't do that - but now, of course, when he grazes I have barely enough rein to hang onto... sigh. As in, I have 10 foot yacht rope reins, want to get new ones, am thinking about the biothane reins with grips. There is the option of 11 feet, and am wondering why people prefer the shorter reins over the longer reins? Just to beat the comments that I know are coming, I know that they have those romel attachments, but I prefer having the loop of the reins, so that I can "hold" onto the reins while still having full use of my hands, if needed.
