Well .. interesting. Most of them look like ingredients found in various liniments.

Thanks. Caisson has a small splint, but since he also has suspensory issues, I think I will run it by my vet before using it. I can live with the splint, and I don't want to compromise the suspensory rehab.

Yes it is an irritant. It does cause minor skurfing (flaking) of the skin. During the first 2-3 months of use the splints did not seem to change but the horse was not being ridden either because of my shoulder. As the riding increased the splints started getting smaller. I think the riding helped but I suppose it could be that the Splintex just needed to be applied over a longer time frame.

I do not know the ingredients but will check the bottle tomorrow and report.

on both fronts. They were cold (fused, healed) and he was sound.
After 4-5 years of slow 50's barefoot and using boots the RF splint
suddenly started getting bigger. I don't know if he kicked it or
what but it was soon the size of half an egg on the inside of his
leg. Looked like hell but he was never lame. I had it xrayed, the
vet said it looked "bad" whatever that means. I sent the xray to an
expert at Alamo Pintado and he said he could remove the boney growth
so it would not irritate the tendons but it might come back ($2500).
He did not recommend removing the splint bone on an endurance horse
because it helps support some part of the knee.

We resumed our slow 50's for 2-3 years until June'08 when I
dislocated my shoulder tailing up a hill....ugh. By that time the
area directly below the splint would fill after a 50 but the horse
trotted sound and it didn't seem to bother him.

It bothered me tho....so I searched the net and decided to try a
product called "Splintex Gold" http://www.rrvp.com/jacksinc/splintexgold.htm .

In July'08 I started applying Splintex Gold per the instructions, 3
days on, 2 days off. Sometimes I would miss a week then start the
routine again. By Sept I could ride again so we would just go hack a
few miles. By Feb'09 the mud season was over, my shoulder was fine
so we started riding 6-8mi a day 2-3 days a week. We have not done
any 50's yet but lots of hacking and training around home including
several 20+mi days.

I purchased 12oz of Splintex Gold and have used over 8oz to date. I
have been putting it on both splints. Today I did it and the old LF
splint that was not reinjured has reduced by 50% overall. The "bad"
RF one has also reduced over 50% in height and maybe 20% in
diameter. The area below does not fill anymore. Overall the RF
splint looks much better and I will continue using the Splintex Gold
until the 12oz is gone. If the splints continue to shrink then I
will probably buy more and continue until ???

Might work for you instead of surgery.
