If motorcyclists or dirt bikers do not intentionally spook your horse, then talk of shooting *anything* at them is a huge mistake because it would be you who would be guilty of assault. Being stupid around horses can be tragic, as this incident was, but it isn't "assault" or "battery" or "attempted murder". However, shooting any kind of gun at someone is at a minimum assault, even if your intent is just to scare them. The motorcyclists were breaking the law by riding on this trail.
